Police arrest LulzSec hacker in Scotland

Police in Scotland have arrested an alleged hacker accused to be one of the minds behind the LulzSec group, which has hacked into several corporate and government websites over the past few months.

While the group was only meant to wreak havoc online for 50 days, it recently returned to hack News Limited websites in the wake of the British phone-hacking scandal.

The hacker, who is known as “Topiary”, allegedly served as the publicist for the group and posted statements on both Twitter and the group’s website.

“The man arrested is believed to be linked to an ongoing international investigation in to the criminal activity of the so-called “hacktivist” groups Anonymous and LulzSec, and uses the online nickname “Topiary” which is presented as the spokesperson for the groups,” Scotland police said in a statement.

“Today’s operation is linked to PCeU’s ongoing investigation into network intrusions and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks against a number of international business and intelligence agencies by what is believed to be the same hacking group.”
