Electronics manufacturing giant Samsung is set to combine its display and semiconductor groups into one unit.
As reported by the Wall Street Journal, Samsung is set to combine the panel manufacturing and component manufacturing businesses, with both combined making up 44% of revenue.
The report indicates that Samsung is preparing to deal with the fact that customers of the component business actively compete with Samsung in other divisions, such as panel-making and consumer electronics like smartphones.
Samsung originally broke off the two businesses in 2004 when LCD manufacturing became a profitable business on its own.
