India’s Ministry of Home Affairs wants to stop the launch of Nokia’s new push email service until a monitoring system is implemented, according to reports.
According to India’s Economic Times, the Ministry of Home Affairs has told the Department of Telecom: “In view of the Intelligence Bureau’s report, Department of Telecommunications is requested to advice the Telecom Service Providers not to launch Nokia’s proposed pushmail/powermail service without putting in place monitoring facilities to the satisfaction of the LEA’s.”
The move follows a high-profile push from the Indian Government to force Blackberry-maker Research in Motion to provide access to its Enterprise mail services.
Nokia, the European mobile phone maker, has struggled against the emergence of Apple’s iPhone.
