Are these the Australian iPad 2 prices?

Days before the iPad 2 is set to launch in Australia, a supposed list of prices has leaked onto the internet providing consumers with some hope they will see a discount for Apple’s latest gadget.

A post on the Whirlpool forum has published a list of prices, urging users not to ask him where he received the data as he is “unable to reveal” his sources.

Apple was contacted this morning by SmartCompany regarding the leaked figures, but did not reply before publication. The tech giant does not usually comment on speculation.

The supposed leaked list reveals the iPad 2 launch in Australia will provide consumers with a $50-$100 discount over last year’s prices. Since then the Australian dollar has gained ground and is now above parity – a development users have said should lead to lower prices.

The user, known as “Brown2Hornet”, also revealed the launch will take place at 5pm this Friday afternoon – the exact time the American launch was held nearly two weeks ago.

So far the Apple Store has not been updated to allow pre-orders, and is still displaying the “Notify Me” button.

Various retailers including JB Hi-Fi and Mac reseller Next Byte have said they are preparing for a launch for this Friday, but it is understood individual stores do not know how much stock they will receive just yet.
