A Google engineer has released an extension for the Chrome browser that allows users to hide being tracked by Facebook.
The app is designed to stop Facebook Connect from tracking your movements. Facebook Connect is the APIs that allow sites to integrate their pages with Facebook, which in turn shows information to users based on their own profiles and friends’ profiles.
The new app stops those sites from tracking you and your friends’ movements, meaning you aren’t given any suggestions for pages or features to visit.
“Facebook is notified whenever you visit one of the more than one million sites on the web that use Facebook Connect and has a history of leaking personally identifiable information to third parties,” Brian Kennish writes alongside the extension. “Turn off the flow of your data to them!”
