Foxtel has launched a new service designed to compete with online content providers such as the iTunes Store in providing movie and television downloads.
The upgrade will allow customers to connect an Ethernet cable to their set-top box, in order to download over 1,000 television episodes and hundreds of films.
The service will count towards a user’s download quota, but Telstra has said its own customers can use the service and it won’t count against their download limits. But Foxtel also said the service will mean other customers who don’t use the program will pay more.
“As a result of these additions to the Foxtel service we have adjusted the price of some of our packages, meaning that while some customers will experience a modest price increase, other customers’ packages will remain the same price or even decrease,” Foxtel told Fairfax.
Each television show will be available for $2.95 per episode, while new-release movies are available for $5.50.
