Software giant Microsoft may be trailing behind its rivals in the search engine space, but Bing has still managed to gain some ground over the past year.
New data from Experian Hitwise shows the engine’s US traffic in June jumped by 7% compared to May, while it recorded 88% growth over the 12 months to June as a whole.
When it was launched in June 2009, Bing capture only 5.25% of the US market. Now, it has 9.85%. In the same period, Yahoo has dropped 11.24%, while Google has also dropped 3.2% although it remains the market leader.
During June, Bing held 9.85% of the market, while Yahoo stayed steady at 14.37%. Google’s share fell from 72.17% to 71.65%.
It remains to be seen how much having Bing on the iPhone will affect its search share.
