HP to integrate WebOS with printers

Computer manufacturer Hewlett-Packard has said it will introduce its newly acquired WebOS platform into printer products.

In the company’s quarterly earnings report, chief executive Mark Hurd told analysts the operating system, which it acquired during its purchase of handset manufacturer Palm, would expand to other products.

“We expect to leverage WebOS into a variety of form factors, including slate computers and web-connected printers,” Hurd reportedly said during the call.

It is expected the WebOS platform will also be rolled out to mobile products, with a number of analysts expecting the upcoming HP tablet to feature the software. Technology Business Research analyst told Information Week the roll-out will help HP expand.

“While HP is behind in the consumer mobile market in comparison to Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android, TBR believes there is viable opportunity for HP to gain traction in the commercial mobile markets,” Jessica Breen said.
