Social networking giant Facebook has abandoned its “Lite” version, which it launched last year for users who are wanting to access the most basic features of the device.
The version launched in India and the US, but it has now taken the site down without much explanation. It was designed for time-poor users and others who did not have access to faster internet connections.
“Thanks to everyone who tried out Facebook Lite,” the company said in a status update on the site. “We’re no longer supporting it, but learned a lot from the test of a slimmed-down site. If you used Lite, you’ll now be taken to the main Facebook.com site.”
Many users were said to have preferred Facebook Lite as an alternative to the main site, which would give users updates on friends’ applications and updates, sometimes claiming this would spam their news feeds.
