Australian developers prefer the iPhone OS for making their applications, with 81% choosing the smartphone as their platform of choice, results from a recent Ovum survey have revealed.
The survey found that BlackBerry OS is used by 74% of developers, followed by the Windows Mobile OS at 66%. Android is used by about 64%, with Nokia’s Symbian OS preferred by 56%.
Ovum noted the growing popularity of the iPhone, along with the billions of apps already downloaded from the App Store, as drivers of the software’s popularity. “The commercial case for developing on iPhone is therefore largely proven,” Ovum said in a statement.
The ability for developers to create their apps and distribute them using the App Store, along with a 70% cut of revenue, has made Apple’s iPhone OS software extremely popular among both established development studios and stand-alone programmers.
