An Australian startup that provides travellers with information on what events are happening while they are on holiday has launched an iPhone app.
Triplify hopes to become the “go-to” platform for discovering local events and was previously the only West Australian finalist in the OzApp Awards. Co-founder Damien Hatton told StartupSmart the app aims to make it easier for users to plan a holiday by removing the task of having to visit multiple websites to see what cultural events are on.
“I’m a keen traveller,” he says. “The main point we’re addressing is no matter what place you go on holiday you need to do a Google search to find out what’s on there.”
Triplify collates event listings for cities such as Melbourne, Sydney, New York, London, Toronto and Las Vegas – with more planned for the future. The app allows users to filter their search based on topics such as markets, sports and events that are free. They are then presented with a Google map showing them the location of the event and the easiest way to get there.
“Basically we want to become the global go-to events platform in the world for travellers,” Hatton says. “They won’t need to go to Google anymore to find out what’s happening.”
The app also has a “fear of missing-out” feature. Hatton describes it as a notification about an event that is just outside the user’s date range or search area they “just won’t want to miss out on”.
Triplify’s monetisation strategy is to partner with ticketing outlets who then give them a commission when someone buys a ticket to that event on Triplify. The startup is based out of Perth, and Hatton says the local startup scene has become “really vibrant”.
“I guess five years ago it was virtually non-existent,” he says. “There’s a sense that this state – which is built on mining – is starting to waver and people are starting to focus on the tech scene. You notice tech hubs and co-working spaces emerging – as well as a lot of support.”
