Twitter will remove images of deceased individuals at the request of family members, according to The Wall Street Journal.
“In order to respect the wishes of loved ones, Twitter will remove imagery of deceased individuals in certain circumstances,” a statement tweeted by the company’s spokesperson read.
“Immediate family members and other authorised individuals may request the removal of images or video of deceased individuals, from when critical injury occurs to the moments before or after death by sending an email to privacy@twitter.com.”
When reviewing individual cases, Twitter said it would consider the need for public interest and would not be able to honour every request.
The news comes a week after Robin Williams’s daughter quit the social media platform after being sent photoshopped images of her late father.
Twitter has also announced it is suspending accounts that post photos of American journalist James Foley’s murder.
