Computer giant Dell yesterday released a new laptop that can recharge wirelessly through power cords built into its base, similar to the Palm Pre.
Marketed by Dell as “the world’s thinnest, lightest 16-inch laptop”, the Latitude Z is less than an inch thick and 14 millimeters at its thinnest point. It weighs just over two kilograms.
The new release recharges in the same time as a standard laptop, Dell says. The four-cell battery will last for around four hours, but an upgrade to an eight hour eight cell battery is available.
Dell is promoting the Latitude Z as a high-end business laptop. It costs $US2,000, with an extra $200 each for a wireless charging hub and a magnetic inductive charging stand.
The laptop is currently available in Europe, Asia and North America. An Australian release date has not yet been set.
