Kick a goal on staff morale: Organise a grand final barbecue for your workplace

Well, we’re getting to the business end of September.

With a potentially busy few months ahead for your business, it’s time to give your staff morale a boost. So how will you rally your team ahead of the hard slog, coach?

No matter which side of the Barassi line your business is based, a great way of rallying the troops is with a staff barbecue or a shared lunch.

Meanwhile, being the business end of the year, that means both the AFL and the NRL grand finals are nigh. What better excuse for a barbecue?

So here’s what you’re going to do: the Friday before grand final day, tell your staff you’re having a dress-up day at work in celebration!

All non-customer facing staff can dress up in the colours of their favourite team from any code. That means, for example, your expat British or Canadian staff can dress up as his/her favourite Premier League or NHL player, while the Adelaide-born tech guru in your Sydney office can dress up as a Crow for the day, if they so wish.

The reason why you announce it early – by which I mean now – is to give yourself enough time to organise a prize for the best dressed. It doesn’t have to be anything big – a movie pass will do.

On the day, fire up the Weber at lunch and fry some sausages (and if there are any vegetarians in the office, don’t forget those veggie burgers, too). Or better yet, some cheese-filled kranskys or beer-soaked bratwurst sausages! (After all, if you’re going to give yourself a cholesterol boost, you might as well do it in style!)

Alternatively, perhaps do a shared lunch, where your staff bring along a plate each.

Maybe rattle the tin and raise some money for your favourite charity, while you’re at it.

If you really want to go all out, perhaps get your office assistant to blow up some balloons in the colours of your preferred eventual premiers.

So, are you planning a grand final day barbecue? Or perhaps there might be a different occasion or theme for a fancy dress day? If so, be sure to leave your thoughts and suggestions in the comments below!

Oh, and I almost forgot the most important part: carn the Hawks!

Get it done – today!
