Quirky aesthetics and clean tech light up the streets

Streetlights have got a high-tech makeover in Portland, opening up a huge new market for sculptor Dan Corson should he choose to pursue it.

 

The LED-lit fibreglass streetlights are shaped like carnivorous plants and powered by solar energy.

 

It’s good news for tech developers and urban designers who can bring beauty and energy efficiency to our cityscapes.

 

While only four have been installed, the beautiful additions are sure to have sparked many ideas about ageing infrastructure in our increasingly aesthetically-minded and green-focused cities.
