World-leading Startup Engineering course now available online and free

Entrepreneurs plotting a technology start-up can now learn from the very best the world has to offer, online and for free.

Silicon Valley-based Stanford University is offering their Startup Engineering course via Coursera, an education company that has partnered with universities to offer free courses.

The course is designed for students who want to “learn the engineering skills needed to build a technology start-up from the ground up”.

Each lesson covers technical topics such as wireframing, coding languages and databases, and entrepreneurial concepts such as market research, capitalisation and accounting.

The course is taught by Vijay Pande and Balaji Srinivasan.

Pande is the director of Stanford’s Biophysics Program and the developer and founder of a powerful distributed computing network.

Srinivasan is the co-founder of a multi-award winning genomics start-up, and has taught data mining, statistics and a range of other topics at Stanford University.

Students will need a basic understanding of programming. There will be a range of guest lecturers including senior technology engineers and successful entrepreneurs.

The course runs for 10 weeks, with coursework taking up two to 20 hours a week. The current course launched last week, but students can still join or sign up to receive a notification about the next course.
