Apple fans rejoiced earlier this week when it was announced the company’s new operating system, Snow Leopard, will go on sale this Friday, 28 August.
The upgrade, which is the first operating system from the company to only run on Intel-based Mac computers, will only cost $14.95 for Macs bought after 7 June. Users of the current Leopard operating system can upgrade for $39.
However, the nature of the OS means that users cannot buy Snow Leopard outright – they must already have an earlier version of Leopard installed. But if users are willing to pay more, they can buy the “Mac Box Set” which includes iLife and iWork 2009, along with Snow Leopard, for $229.
New features include a new “Finder” application, with the company labelling the OS as a “refined” and faster version of the current Leopard OS.
Other features include a faster icon refresh feature, faster times using Expose and improvements through navigating “stacks” in the “dock” at the bottom of the screen.
