THE NEWS WRAP: Health food entrepreneur Carolyn Creswell takes out Business Woman of the Year crown

‘Muesli queen’ Carolyn Creswell has been named the Telstra Australian Business Woman of the Year at an awards ceremony last night, 20 years after spending $1,000 to get her venture up and running.

 

Creswell is the founder of Melbourne-based firm Carman’s Fine Foods, which now commands a turnover of around $50 million and employs 130 people.

 

Telstra said Creswell’s “great business model and work ethic” saw her emerge from a competitive field to land its annual prize.

 

Tinkler’s Patinack Farm to be liquidated

 

A court has ordered the liquidation of Patinack Farm, the property operated by mining magnate Nathan Tinkler, according to Fairfax.

 

On Tuesday, Tinkler’s Mulsanne Resources was wound up with a $28.4 million debt. Meanwhile, his main business, Tinkler Group Holdings, is the subject of winding up proceedings over a $145,000 debt.

 

Kickstarter sued over 3D printer

 

US crowdfunding website Kickstarter is being sued over allegations of a patent infringement on a 3D printer.

 

Formlabs has raised more than $2.9 million from the contributions of 2,000 users in order to build the device.

 

However, 3D Systems, a printer company, claims that Formlabs’ design infringes upon its patent. It is suing both Formlabs and Kickstarter.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 53.21 points, or 0.42%, to 12,841.72. The Australian dollar rose to US103.64 cents.
