Australia has more than 12 million Facebook users, but when it comes to reaching them, a handful of businesses are doing far better than the rest.
New figures by Social Bakers reveal that familiar names such as M&Ms, Quiksilver and Coca-Cola lead the way in terms of ‘likes’ from Aussies.
However, these big guns don’t lead the way when it comes to engagement (daily activity divided by number of fans) with users – café chain Jamaica Blue is out on top, followed by online shopping site oo.com.au and Muffin Break:
No news on how Kiwi businesses are doing on social media, but they won’t be too worried – New Zealand was recently named the best place in the world to do business, after all.
This Forbes piece riffs on the pain of the US in being placed below Australia and New Zealand, which came out on top after slashing its corporate tax rate to 28%.
America still leads the way among the business heavyweights, of course, particularly in the area of tech.
This interesting video interview with Ben Horowitz, of famed VC firm Andreessen Horowitz, contains some great nuggets of advice for start-ups, including why it’s important to give honest feedback.
“Being nice to everybody all the time or never telling them what’s wrong turns out to be a really dangerous thing,” says Horowitz.
“It’s really important in general to be giving feedback always. Negative feedback, not just about people, but about what’s wrong in the company is critically important.”
