Stop complaining about the economy

taskmasterOne thing Old Taskmaster has gotten a little sick of recently is people complaining about the state of the economy, especially in front of their customers.

Now, obviously, no one is pretending the economy is perfect. Everyone would love more trade, lower utility bills or cheaper retail rents. Europe remains a concern. There’s always waste in the public service and who wouldn’t prefer to pay less money in tax?

And sure, the internet is overturning outdated business models in retail and the media. However, if anything, that’s a trend clever start-up entrepreneurs should be cashing in on rather than complaining about. A world with less room for lazy economic rent seekers might not be a bad thing.

Take a look at what a real tough economy looks like these days:

Notice all of those people – with jobs – buying things. Oh the humanity!

The real risk, when you complain about the state of economy, is you begin crushing consumer confidence with a crowbar. Consumers who are nervous about the economy, unlike confident consumers, will think twice about buying your goods and services. That, in turn, can have a real impact on your business.

So stop talking the economy down and start reassuring your consumers with good news. After all, confident customers are comfortable parting with their cash.

Get it done – today!
