THE NEWS WRAP: Business energy efficiency up despite significant price pressures

Two-thirds of Australian businesses have improved their energy efficiency over the last three years, although many remain under significant pressure from energy price rises, according to a new report.

 

The Australian Industry Group study of more than 300 businesses found a major surge in the number of firms improving their energy efficiency. However, energy expenditure as a percentage of turnover is expected to leap by 37% between 2010 and 2013.

 

Clive Palmer set to launch online newspaper

 

Mining magnate Clive Palmer has unveiled his latest inspired plan – an online newspaper called Rage that would employ fired Fairfax journalists.

 

Palmer said he had already sought a trademark on the name Rage and said that the newspaper would improve media diversity in Australia.

 

Apple re-joins environment scheme

 

Apple has made an embarrassing U-turn after provoking customer ire by quitting an environmental ratings scheme.

 

The tech giant said that it had made “a mistake” by exiting the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool initiative, which identifies devices that are least harmful to the environment.

 

Apple has re-joined the scheme shortly after the city of San Francisco warned that it would ban agencies from buying Macs

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 203.82 points, or 1.62%, to 12,777.09 on Friday. The Australian dollar was up to US102.51 cents.
