How to find your computer’s IP address

tech-tricksSometimes if you’re trying to figure out a problem on your network, you may need to find your computer’s IP address. If you’re not technically minded, then someone else can do it for you, although it’s a good skill to have anyway.

If you’re using a Windows machine, head to the Control Panel, then the “network and sharing centre”. Click on the name of your internet connection, and then choose “details” in the window that pops up.

Then, down the list, you should see something called your IPv4 address, (it may be called IPv6). That’s the address you need, and it’ll usually start with the numbers 192.168.

Another quick way to check is to open the Command Prompt window, and then type “ipconfig”. That’ll give you all the IP address information as well.
