StartupSmart recently made the short trip to Melbourne co-working space The Hub to see Brendan O’Connor, the Federal Small Business Minister, grilled by start-ups on everything from red tape to export markets.

O’Connor, who has been in the job since March, has already overseen the installation of a new small business commissioner and promised The Hub’s tenants, in rather candid terms, that the government will be looking to improve its standing with new ventures.

We managed to put some of our own questions to O’Connor on the issues that matter most to your business. Today, we’ll let you be the judge as to how he fared.

Elsewhere, mentor Marcia Griffin argues that it is entrepreneurial resilience, rather than government hand-outs, that make great businesses and we have news of a major new project aimed at start-ups in Queensland.
