Apple-inspired perfume hits the right note

start-up-idea-apple-perfumePerfume is going high-tech, with a new fragrance that claims to smell like a new Apple laptop.

The scent was created by three Melbourne artists and Cheltenham-based company Air Aroma, which shipped an unopened Apple Mac to France to show perfumers the scent they wanted.

Air Aroma spokesperson Alex Cosic says the scent is formulated to smell like plastic wrapping, aluminium and the lid of an Apple laptop.

“The smell is like sticky tape, cellophane – that type of smell. They wanted to infuse the smell that you can find in the box of an Apple laptop,” Cosic says.

“There’s been a lot of interest worldwide.”

The scent was developed after Air Aroma was approached by artists Gavin Bell, Jarrah de Kuijer and Simon McGlinn.

The yet-to-be-named perfume is held in a diffuser which looks similar to the silver exterior of an Apple Mac laptop.

An Apple-inspired scent might sound a bit silly, but it does highlight consumers’ increasing appetite for all things tech.

Are there opportunities to align other everyday items with major tech products?
