New app an artistic idea

start-up-idea-van-goghOne of Vincent Van Gogh’s most famous works has been turned into an interactive iPad app, allowing users to manipulate his brushstrokes and create their own version.

The latest edition to Apple’s App Store brings Starry Night to life through animation, with the renowned oil lines moving like waves across the canvas.

But the viewer can also make their own mark on the art by dragging a finger across the screen to divert and manipulate the dashed daubs.

The app – Starry Night Interactive Animation – also features ambient background music, which changes with each imprint the user makes on the image. It is available from iTunes.

It follows the creation of a PC version of the program by Greek artist Petros Vrellis earlier this year. The interactive animation proved so popular that Vrellis followed it up with the app.

There are plenty of Australian artists that could be brought to life through animation. What other great artists deserve to have an app launched in their honour?
