Transforming our business culture

Recently at Shoes of Prey, we’ve been spending quite a bit of time thinking about our business culture and values, as highlighted in some of our recent blog posts.

After talking to our team and spending time at the recent Growth Summit, we realised we had developed a  business culture “by default”, rather than “by design”. While our business culture was okay, there was room to improve it in order to make our company a better place to work.

So Jodie, Mike and I spent a Saturday together mapping out our thoughts on our business culture, and how we could improve it. We then took the ideas we came up with to the rest of our team and fleshed them out further.

These discussions proved particularly timely, because we decided to hire another six people over the next three months (if anyone is interested, the positions will be in marketing and product management roles, and will be advertised on our blog later this week).

The slideshow above is the product of our discussions. It’s the starting point for a living and breathing document that will evolve and grow with our company.

Of course, this is very much the first edition of the document. If anyone has any feedback, we’d love to hear it. Nonetheless, as a starting point, we love it.

If your business has a “culture by default” and you want to bring it under control, perhaps it’s time to create a plan of your own?
