Phil and Shannon Adair wanted to make children excited about getting their haircut, which meant creating an environment that was fun to be in, which is how Kidz Lidz came about.
Shannon combined her hairdressing skills with Phil’s passion for retro antique pedal cars, which Phil has incorporated into the salons as chairs for the kids to sit on while having their hair cut.
In keeping with the theme, there is a play area complete with video games, movies and toys.
The salons also carry an organically-derived product designed to attack head lice; a common problem among children.
“We desired to create a niche in the marketplace and stand out from other salons. Essentially, to be unique and connect with the local community,” Phil says.
“Kids’ haircuts are in pedal cars while they watch their favourite TV shows. We are also a full adult salon, so we have a beautiful selection for mums and dads.”
Phil says getting the company’s name out there proved to be the most challenging part of starting up the business.
“We knew we offered a great service, so we concentrated on servicing our clients as best we could to get word-of-mouth referrals, and it worked.”
“Being able to control your own destiny is the best part of starting your own business. As the saying goes, if it’s going to be, then it’s up to me.”
“The Kidz Lidz concept has worked hard to take the fear out of children’s hairdressing. We pride ourselves on our professionalism, a safe, friendly atmosphere and, of course, loads of fun.”
“We are progressive. We are expanding. We are proud of what we have achieved to date, though there is so much more.”
