Apple is expected to unveil its latest iPad tablet next week, hot on the heels of fresh details on rival Microsoft’s Windows 8 device.

 

In an invitation to journalists for March 7, Apple said: “We have something you really have to see. And touch.” It’s anticipated the event will see the launch of the iPad 3.

 

The unveiling comes as the tablet market heats up further in the battle for business and consumer users, with Microsoft announcing that it will give further details on its Windows 8 tablet later today.

 

 

ACCC approves Telstra split

 

The competition watchdog has given the green light to the structural separation of Telstra, removing the last hurdle to the creation of the National Broadband Network.

 

The ACCC agreed that the splitting of Telstra’s retail and wholesale arms would aid competition, with Julia Gillard calling the decision a “landmark” for Australian telecommunications.

 

 

 

Forrest faces ASIC court battle

 

Mining magnate Andrew Forrest could face being banned as a company director if he loses a long-running legal battle against the Australian Securities and Investment Commission.

 

Forrest and ASIC are facing off in the High Court over statements the billionaire made to the market about “binding” agreements with Chinese investors.
